Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur Lie 'Garance', Luneau-Papin(Natural) 12%| 2022

Muscadet Garance Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin, Organic wine, 100% Melon de Bourgogne, aged on the lees for extra texture.  The wine is very well balanced and great value. Like many Muscadet, this wine is ‘sur lie’, an expression often mis-understood.  We English tend to think ‘Lie’ is a little river or village somewhere in the Loire!  Actually ‘Sur Lie’ means they keep the wines on the fine lees (the dead yeast cells and sediment left at the bottom of the tank after fermentation).  They remain with the lees for more than four months and they do not rack or filter the wines prior to bottling.  This process adds texture and flavour to the often neutral tasting Melon grape.  Sur Lie also gives the wine its now well established slight whiff of smokiness on the nose.  Muscadet Garance sur lie is a soft and easy going white.  Garance has lovely white fruits and a subtle yeasty character, a delicious apero or with light fish dishes glass of wine.
